About Us

CATHOLIC CHARITIES OF NORTHWEST FLORIDA

Welcome to our site! We proudly carry out the social mission of the Catholic Church throughout the eighteen most northwest counties in the Florida panhandle to serve, to empower and to advocate for vulnerable families and individuals of any race, religion or national origin.

Catholic Charities of NW Florida is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), charitable organization that changed the lives of more than 74,000 individuals last year throughout the Diocese.  The overarching goal of effecting sustainable social change by making a long-term impact on individuals, families and communities remains the guiding principle of the agency’s undertakings.

Founded in 1928, the programs of Catholic Charities focus on empowerment and seek to enact long-term, positive change in the lives of those we serve. Our services are tailored for the unique circumstances of each person and our impact is significant and measurable. We serve our neighbors professionally, compassionately, in multiple languages, with great importance placed on building-up their personal dignity as we help them to remove barriers to self-sufficiency, assist them with unlocking hidden potential and encourage them to create a better life for themselves & their families.

A THEOLOGY OF CHARITY

We have a mandate from Christ to be concerned for the troubled, the infirm, the economically poor, the brokenhearted, and the disadvantaged. We accept this responsibility because we wish to respond to the love that God first showed to us. The U.S. Bishops have challenged the American Church to have “a preferential option for the poor.”

Through the Catholic Charities Movement, we have a dynamic and effective system for bringing about a better society. Catholic Charities agencies are commissioned in a special way to confront the scandal of human suffering. In fulfilling this responsibility, the Mission of Catholic Charities involves actions of service and advocacy.

Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida is just one of hundreds of independent Catholic Charities organizations across the nation. Following the example of Jesus Christ, when he washed the feet of his disciples and charged them to do so for others as written in the 13th chapter of the Gospel of John, we are servants to those who are hungry, homeless, sick, imprisoned, poor and vulnerable.

While society may exclude some people, because they are sick, disabled, poor or different, Catholic Charities reaches out to help them. With respect for their human dignity, which is at the core of Catholic social teachings, we offer them help and give them hope.

Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida served over 74,000 people last year, at every stage of life, including children yet to be born.  We provide compassion, healing, and hope for the poor and those in need throughout the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee serving Catholics and non-Catholics alike.

With a wide variety of programs and services, our ministries alleviate suffering of those in crisis by feeding the hungry and providing shelter to the homeless, preventing evictions and utility shutoffs for those at risk of homelessness, and providing case management and referrals to preserve and promote self-sufficiency.

We preserve and protect the dignity and well-being of the poor and vulnerable by helping seniors live independently, providing assistance to victims of the economic recession, legal assistance and advocacy to immigrants, mental health services and intensive case management to foster self-sufficiency.

We provide safety and permanency for children by preventing homelessness and by supporting families with budgeting and personal finance classes as well as life-skills classes.  Through birth parent counseling, adoptions, foster care, and parenting classes, we promote the sanctity of life and the general welfare of the young.

We lead the initiative to create a better community while partnering in a collaborative effort with other community agencies and organizations to reduce poverty thereby strengthening families and ensuring our children have a stronger foundation and hope for a brighter future.  The Bridges to Circles program is an innovative and effective approach to cutting poverty with a goal of a 50% reduction on poverty by 2020.
