Since society’s public policies and budget form the litmus test for whether that society is just, Parish Social Ministry tries to engage parishioners in efforts to create or change local, state, and national legislation in order to bring about public policies that eliminate poverty and thus protect human life, promote human dignity, preserve God’s creation, and build peace. Catholic Charities of Northwest Florida legislative priorities follow the CCUSA Poverty Campaign and the Justice for Immigrants Campaign. On the state and national level, we seek affordable housing, accessible healthcare, eradication of hunger, protection for economic security and comprehensive immigration reform. There are times, when the USCCB’s office for Social Development and World Peace office and Catholic Relief Services take the lead of issues that CCNWFL would follow.
